May 31, 2011, (Sawf News) - The filming of Rohit Shetty's action thriller Singham headlining Ajay Devgn was stopped on Monday late noon, May 30, in Mumbai over alleged non-payment of wages to the workers, a source from the set tells Sawfnews.com.
The Federation Of Western India Cine Employees(FWICE) intervened on behalf of unpaid workers and filming.
The shoot was allowed to restart only after outstanding payments were made by the producers, Reliance BIG Pictures.
FWICE chairperson Mr. Prem Singh Thakur said, "It was a huge amount that was over due. A total payment of over Rs. 45,50,000 had not been made to the workers working on the film. We had to intervene and stop the shooting on the film's sets."
When contacted, a Reliance BIG Pictures official told us off the record, "Yes the shoot was stopped but the reason was a payment misunderstanding. There is nothing due now. We have done the needful."
Singham, a remake of the Tamil hit of the same name, is set for a July 22 release.
Singham pairs Devgn with South actress Kajal Agarwal who makes her Bollywood debut with the film.
Filming began on March 2 in Goa. Currently patch work of the film is being shot in and around Mumbai.
Devgn plays sub-Inspector Bajirao Singham, a brave and just policeman who serves in his hometown primarily to fulfill his father's wish. Singham settles every dispute in his town patiently with his words of wisdom and resorts to force only when the situation demands it. A city girl who comes on vacation to his hometown, falls in love with Singham.
Kajal Agarwal, who got a break with ‘Chandamama’, got the opportunity to play opposite almost all the young heroes and Maheshbabu was the only hero with whom she could not pair up so far.
Her dream came true with an opportunity to play opposite him in ‘The Businessman’.
In a chitchat with some film journalist, she expressed her wish saying, ‘I would love to play as a princess and ride a horse. That wish was fulfilled with ‘Magadheera’ in no time. But there is one more character which I desire to play in a film. That is ‘Anarkali’s role’. I dreamt of playing the role as the character will have strong emotions. Especially, we can leave indelible impressions in the minds of audiences by playing such roles. I have many more such wishes in my mind.’
Her recent release ‘Mr Perfect’ was a big hit and her Bollywood film ‘Singam’ is getting ready for release. Not only in Telugu and Hindi, Kajal is also playing opposite Surya in a Tamil film.
When asked whether should would change her hobbies for the sake of her would be husband, she says, ‘Of course, if he doesn’t like any of my hobbies, I will change them. But I will never accept a husband who had the qualities of ‘Mr Perfect’. It is not that easy to compromise for everything for his sake. One should have maturity to understand such kind of characters.’
